How to create a Terraria server? (Host Free or Paid)

Setting up a Terraria server can be done with just a few clicks, either for free with some limitations or as a dedicated paid service.
In this article, you’ll learn how to create a Terraria server for the version and mode you prefer, whether it’s Vanilla, tModLoader, or tShock at LevelRoot.

If you prefer watching a video, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it.

Creating Terraria Server Free

  1. Visit the website www.levelroot.com and register.
  2. If you signed up via email, verify your account.
  3. Click on Create Server, select Terraria, and choose your desired mode: Vanilla, tModLoader, or tShock.
  4. Select the Free version.
  5. Choose the server location, click in Continue.
  6. At this stage, you can input additional settings for your server, including its name, version, difficulty, and world size.

Everything can be modified later, even after the server is set up.

On the Free plan, to keep your server active and online, just play.
The server without active players will pause, but can be started at any time.

Changing to Terraria Paid Version

In the paid version, you’re limited of RAM, which might cause some slowdowns if you want a server with a medium or large world, or if you plan to add mods.

This step is optional, but you might want to consider increasing the server’s RAM or storage.

Paid and free (paying for online hours).

  • Free, always free. The server without active players will pause, but can be started at any time.
  • Paid per hour the server is online*.
  • Paid per month.

*with monthly storage billing.

Changing the plan.

The billing system operates through Credits, meaning you can add credits to your account, and they will be deducted after you select the plan.

Per hour or per month (paid in advance, adding one month to the server).

Visit the credits page at www.levelroot.com/credits and choose the desired amount.

Note: You can enable/disable automatic billing after your credits drop below 0, which is useful for servers paid per hour.

After adding your desired credits, go to www.levelroot.com/panel, then select ‘Change Plan.’

Important: You can revert to the Free plan whenever you want.

This way, you can have your server online 24/7, running with your modifications, world, mods, and a dedicated address for you and your friends to play together.
